Spa pedicures. Godiva chocolate. Sweat pants.
I think we all know what these three things have in common. Whether it’s playing hooky from work to hit the beach, having a cupcake and a Red Bull for breakfast or accenting your evening
look with a heavy helping of glitter, we all have our favorite guilty pleasures.
Personally, I have a tendency to spend more on my dog’s wardrobe than on my own. I enjoy buying for her almost as much as sitting on the couch with a half gallon of Edy’s Espresso Chip and watching Step Up. And, boy, give me an opportunity to curl up with a good romance novel? That sink full of dishes isn’t going anywhere!
In my novel, Rhianna, a historical romance set in post-regency England, my heroine
is a curious one. As I was writing about her, her guilty pleasure turned out to be tapping into her inner sleuth. I enjoyed supplying her with a good dose of late-night speeding carriages, locked chamber doors and mysterious characters with murderous motives to keep her interest peaked.
Of course, here in the 21stcentury, we have so much more at our fingertips. There
is a guilty pleasure for everyone - several, certainly- to fit each of our personalities. Guilty pleasures to make our very own! If I was to say to you, ABBA GoldGreatest Hits, late-night reruns, or Pop Tarts, how would you feel? Does your heart swell with the idea of enthusiastically singing along to Britney Spears in your car, windows down, without a care to the vehicles around you?
In this crazy world full of stress and time-suckers, I think all of us are on the lookout for the next moment we can steal away for ourselves - and we certainly can’t replay the same guilty pleasures over and over again. So, let’s help each other out by sharing ideas, shall we? You have the day to yourself to do with what you will. Tell me, what
are your top three, favorite guilty pleasures?
