Amazon do something mystical and magical for the author’s something or other. (I
know I should know what exactly this is or isn’t… I don’t. Google wasn’t much help either.) You can write reviews to tell other people your opinion of the book. Really, though, you can just open your mouth and do that. Much easier. Like I said, there aren’t a whole lot of incentives there to write reviews.
That changes today! At least, for you it does. Starting today (September 11, 2012), I’m running a contest for you. How would you like to win a $10 gift card to Amazon or Barnes and Noble? It will be the winner’s choice of bookseller. Ten dollars! That is
two or three eBooks with change left over! Or, it could be a start on your Christmas shopping! It’s never too early for Christmas shopping. If you win, ten dollars could even be a significant portion of your purchase price when Unbound comes out in paperback! (No, I don’t have an exact date. It IS coming though. PROMISE!)
Entering is simple. Read Unbound, write a review of Unbound, post it, and email me the link at firstname.lastname@example.org by midnight September 19, 2012. That’s
Questions? Of course!
You: Do I have to buy Unbound?
Me: Nope! Just read it. No pirated copies though. That’s cheating. Well, not really. I wouldn’t know. Reading pirated books is mean though.
You: I don’t know how to write a review.
Me: Google it. Or, simply follow this outline. “I liked/didn’t like this book because [fill in the blank]. The characters were [fill in the blank]. I [fill in the blank] while
reading this [fill in the blank] book.”
Okay, don’t exactly follow this outline. It feels like a poorly writing Mad Lib. You get the idea though. What did you like? What didn’t you like? What was done well? What needs improvement? Fall in love with a character? Hate one’s guts? Do the characters talk too much? Are they completely irrational? Do you want to jump Dean’s bones? You can go from here.
Please remember, though, a review should not give away the end of the book. Don’t tell everyone who the creeper is. That wouldn’t be fun.
You: I don’t have a Barnes and Noble/Amazon/iTunes/etc. account. How can I
Me: You can post your review on any booksellers’ website that carries Unbound.
I’m not particular to one company over another. Just send me the link to your review, and there’s your entry. Also, if you have your own blog or review site, feel free to post your review there. That will count as an entry as well.
You: If I post the same review to multiple sites, does that only count as one entry?
Me: Heck no! If you take the time to put your review on multiple sites, you get multiple entries! Cool, huh? Just remember to send me the link to your review on EACH website. I won’t be able to chase down all of your reviews.
You: What if I already posted my review of Unbound?
Me: Awesome!! Thank you! I’m not going to punish you for being ahead of the crowd. Just send me the link to your review and you’re in!
You: What if I write an awful review of Unbound? What if I tell you you’re stinky and so is your book?
Me: Ouch. That’s going to suck. I’m a professional, though. I want your HONEST opinion of Unbound. Writing a review should always be done honestly. If you wouldn’t want someone wasting their time on a book not up to par, explain your reasons for that in your review. Other readers will be thankful. Writers will be too as long as you critique the book and not their personal lives.
You: I don’t have an email address.
Me: This probably isn’t the contest for you then. I need your email address to send the winner their prize.
You: What are my odds? One in a million?
Me: I wish I had a million reviews. :D If I receive more than fifty entries, I will add a second $10 gift card to the pot and draw two winners. If we hit more than 100, same
thing. At the absolute worse, your odds are one in fifty. Not too bad, right?
You: What’s your email address again?
It’s just that simple! I’ve tried to answer every possible question I could think of. If you have one I didn’t address, shoot me an email or ask in the comments below. I’ll
get back to you as soon as possible.
I'm SUPER excited about this contest! I hope you are too.
